Showing love

I love February. Not only because January is over (and let’s be honest, January is the worst), but because the whole month is a big celebration of love. I love every cheesy thing about Valentines day but the greatest thing about it is love. Loving everyone in your life and showing them in ways that you don’t always have time for. This year I was determined to show the most important person of all just how much we love him, God. I feel like it is easy to get wrapped up in the lovey dovey-ness of Valentines day with your spouse but we often forget that it is a holiday of love all around. And what greater love have we been shown than the love of Jesus Christ? So I was more than excited to find this countdown to Valentines day from A Faithfulness Told. It is the cutest printable countdown to Valentines day. Each day you do a different activity to practice showing love with your kids. There are some super cute ideas and you can also add your own. Some of my favorites include- read the story about Jesus dying for you on the cross, have a special Valentines meal with mom and dad, show love by praying for those in need, send your grandparents valentines in the mail.

We also have been Valentines-ifying all of our weekly baked goods. Here is our favorite frosted banana bars with a little Valentines flare. If you haven’t tried these yet (I posted the recipe here already…the recipe comes from my wonderful pediatrician) you just have to. They are the best banana bars I have ever tasted and the frosting is divine.

Frosted Banana Bars
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1½ cups mashed, ripe bananas
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • ¾ cup butter
  • 12 oz cream cheese
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  1. Cream together butter and sugar.
  2. Beat in eggs, bananas, vanilla, baking soda and salt.
  3. Continue to mix and slowly add flour.
  4. Pour batter in a greased 18x26x2 inch pan (if you can find it, otherwise a 1inch will work just fine).
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Be sure not to over bake!
  6. Prepare frosting:
  7. Beat butter, cream cheese and vanilla together. *make sure butter and cream cheese are at room temp!
  8. Continue mixing and add powdered sugar ½ cup at a time. (add food coloring if you want to!)
  9. Spread over cooled bars.

Loving thoughts to you and yours this Valentines day and let us remember the greatest love of all!

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 3:1  See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him

1 John 4:7  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
