Asparagus asiago tart

Martha Stewart’s recipe for asparagus gruyere tart…modified! I couldn’t find gruyere cheese anywhere in our small town so I used asiago instead. I also added a thin layer of cream cheese which made all the difference! Here is the original recipe if you are interested!

For this recipe, you will need:

  • aprox. 4 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups your favorite shredded cheese
  • asparagus, trimmed
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, rolled out
  • sea salt
  • olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
Roll out your puff pastry on an oiled baking stone or pizza pan. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and spread thin layer of cream cheese on top. Then sprinkle your cheese, and top with asparagus. Bake for another 15 minutes.

Remove from oven and drizzle a tiny amount of olive oil over the asparagus and top with basil & sea salt. Broil on low for an additional 10 minutes or until bubbling on top.

Serves well with a glass bottle of Merlot! Perfect appetizer to impress your guests! Mmmmm I will totally be making this a lot more in the future. Anyone know of a good puff pastry recipe from scratch? I would love to try that.
